GP Patient Survey 2024 Results Released
This Thursday, on 11 July 2024, the results of the 2024 NHS GP Patient Survey were released.
Surveying around 700,000 patients across 6,307 GP practices in England, it is the latest in a yearly series of patient surveys commissioned by NHS England and run by Ipsos.
Overall, 74% of patients said they had a good or better overall experience at their GP practice (up from 71% in 2023). 67% of patients reported having a good experience when last contacting their GP practice.
Notably, the percentage of patients with a good overall experience across GP practices varied from just 30% at the Black Country Family Practice (excluding practices part of the Special Allocation Scheme) to 100% at Glenridding Health Centre in Cumbria.
Our analysis suggests that, based on the percentage of patients reporting a good overall experience, 47 million patients in England (75%) have a better-scoring GP practice within just 2 miles of their current practice.
The survey was also extended to pharmacy and dentistry services.
For pharmacy services, 87% reported having a good experience. This contrasts to 69% for dentistry services. Of those who had attempted to arrange a dental appointment in the last two years (52%), 3 out of 4 were successful in getting an appointment.

England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own health services independently, and as a result have different policies and guidance in many instances. While we aim to expand our services to all four nations, currently our guides only apply to patients in England.
